Kells/Blackwater F. C. progressed to the second round of the Cup after this hard fought win over Oldcastle United.  With twenty minutes gone in the first half, a passing move involving Troy Flanagan and Alex Millington finished when the ball went to Siarsh Lipinski who scored from 10 yards to give Kells/Blackwater F. C. a 1-0.  Five minutes into the second half, Oldcastle United scored to leave the scoreline 1-1.  With fifteen minutes remaining, after a goalmouth scramble, Alpha Fadiga scored from 6 yards to give Kells/Blackwater F. C. a 2-1 lead.

Having traveled away to Carrick Rovers with second place up for grabs,
this was always going to be a competitive game. Carrick Rovers started the
brightest and struck the post twice in the first 15 minutes. Kells/Blackwater F. C. goalkeeper, Aaron Browne had to pull off a number of fine saves to keep Kells Blackwater F. C. in the game. With so much pressure from Carrick Rovers, eventually it paid off with a fine solo run and finish from a Carrick Rovers player to leave the scoreline 1-0 going into the interval. The second half saw a big improvement from the Kells/Blackwater F. C. team who pressed early and threatened through Paddy Dillon and Mikie Dalton. When Kells/Blackwater F. C. were awarded a corner on fifty minutes, TroyFlanagan powered home a rebound from 10 yards to draw the sides level. This proved to be a vital lift to the Kells Blackwater team who introduced Thomas Ryan and Dylan Philips. The two players became involved straight away and helped maintain possession. When Aaron Browne played the ball out to Alex Millington he moved the ball quickly to Mikie Dalton who switched the ball wide
to Colm Mc Givern, Colm made a fantastic run along the right wing and
crossed in for Siarsk Lipinski who slotted home a quality finish from 12 yards to the net to take the 3 points and secure second place in the league.
